Portable Track

After many hours of thinking, drawing, ciphering and building, I have completed my first portable track.  The track will be used at club meetings and when we do steam up events as the Michigan Small Scale Live Steamers.

As you can see, I will also put it to good use in my heated garage when the weather is bad.  During the summer when I have big steam ups it will server as another running area long side my garden railway.

The table is made from 3/4" plywood and uses 2x4s and 1x4s to construct the supports.  The table is adjustable from about 36" to 50".  This is great because uneven ground is no problem.  It uses closet bi-fold door aligners to keep the joints level and a Draw Hasp underneath to pull the pieces together.

So far I am very pleased with it.  I have a few minor things to do and I will probably add some hardwood or aluminum strips to the edges to make the top stiffer and to protect the edges.  I plan on making a How-To article for the track and I will be sure to post updates to the article as I make changes to improve it.

After all that work, all I want to do now, is use it!  Check back over the next week for some steam up pictures.  Also, please don't e-mail me and ask me for details.  I will get all the details together as soon as time allows and post them here.

Thanks.

John
