06-24-02 Robb DeVries was kind enough to hold an open steam up at his home near Grand Rapids Michigan. I was lucky enough to be able to attend. So Tom, a fellow steamer, and I took the 3 hour drive and enjoyed a great day steamin'. Les Knoll had made the trip from down Chicago way. He brought along his scratch built Shay Locomotive. Yes, this is the locomotive featured in the current issue of Steam in the Garden (No.65). It ran great, even though Les didn't think it was going to. It's his engine and his article so I will leave the details to him.
It was a great day for me as well because I purchased my second Live Steam Locomotive. A good friend who is also in our train club was attending the meeting. He had a Roundhouse Billy that he was selling so after some dealing and some running, it was mine! My thanks to Alex. I'll let the rest of the images speak for themselves. My thanks to Robb for inviting us and letting us enjoy his hospitality and layout.
